Got up about 2:30pm, spent all day in my room doing shit all really while the rest of my housemates went about their own business.
Got a call from parents saying that one of my snails has been buried under the soil for a few days and what should they do, I advised them to live him/her (snails are hermaphrodites) alone as they tend to do that sometimes, just bury themselves.
Got to about midnight, as I was going to the kitchen for food I walked into Mia who asked whether I lived here anymore as she hadn't seen me all weekend.
I replied I had been here, but didn't know what anybody was up to. With the girls always having meals and nights in together watching videos and the boys always on football manager I don't really have anything much to do socially in Clarence Dock.
Guess it's time to pull out the trump card.

Day 57 - Learning something new everyday...
Like every other Saturday, woke up during the day with just enough time for breakfast and squad training. Once again, it failed to let me down. 1 hour of fitness, 1 hour of sparring, can't argue with that. Even though the stretching hurt A LOT. Not sure whether it was meant to hurt that much, but it seriously felt as though I were about to tear a main ligament.
However, the sparring was great. Weird thing is, people I had gone up against in the past in which I used to not be able to get a single hit in, I seemed to be doing alright against this time :S
Even one girl who is quite small who last time I couldn't get close to before didn't seem half has hard as she was before. Could it have been that they were all holding back that much ? I hope not.
It's getting easier to do now, you start to notice that all people can do, is a punch or kick, and judging by their body movement, can predict which one is coming. Not to mention different people tend to have certain punches or kicks that they do quite often, which after a while you can counter against.
After the sparring session I sat down warming down with Jeremy and the small girl I was fighting before (think her name was Harriet). Turns out she used to practice about 6 hours a week when she did Taekwondo before Uni but now doesn't have the time.
It was then that I thought about it. People at Uni tend to say they can't do something because they don't have the time and/or are too busy. But thinking about, though I am only a first year, there has never really been a time when that has happened to me. I mean, she IS a 3rd year and doing medicine. But it seems as though people are only "too busy" when they leave things to the last minute.
That seems to be the case with me and even Daniel said that is what it is like throughout the whole time you're here, and he is also a 3rd year doing Civil Engineering.
So, just gotta stay on top of my game really.
After training Daniel and I didn't really want to go home as we'd be bored, so instead when to the old bar with Jesse and another 2nd year girl (she has said her name loads of times but we can't remember it :S).
Was quite interesting actually, Jesse (who is Australian) was talking to us about politics etc, as she had never heard of the BNP.
Also she found it quite strange that in the UK you didn't actually HAVE to vote, as in Australia you get fined if you don't vote.
Also I found out that even though teaching ends on the 12th, that isn't actually the date I have to leave, meaning I can attend the last training session AND the party Simon is having on the 13th, YES!
This does mean however I will be back a day or two later than I promised everyone, but ah well. Should definitely be back by Sunday.
Got back to Clarence Dock but everyone was doing their own thing. Laura was having ANOTHER girls night. Adam was in his room with Maeve as she has come to visit again for a few days (though I still haven't seen her once).
So I stayed in my room all evening, decided to start my Geophysics which seemed really easy, meaning I must be doing it wrong. Just sat about doing nothing really. Got late but I didn't want to go to bed as I knew whatever time I did go to bed I'd still wake up during the day tommorow so might as well make the most of this free time.
And what better way to do that, than family guy. Watched the all of disc 2 in season 6.
This took me to about 1am or something, in which I got a facebook request from Lauren asking me what I was doing up so late and asked me to come on msn.
Had a chat for about an hour or so before going off to bed.
I wonder what tommorow will bring....

Day 56 - Expert Beginner
Right, so after hitting the snooze about 5 times, I finally got up and off to my only seminar of the day. Got there with 30 minutes to spare. So glad I had done all of this the night before. With nothing much to do, I just went through it with Tom and Darryl to check my answers, they got the same things too, so we were most likely to have been right.
I didn't want to go home just yet though. If I was at Uni now, I might as well make the most of it and get something that I might need another time. The only thing I really needed atm was graph paper however for maths coursework, so bought the cheapest pad I could find, which was £4 (and about a nanometer in thickness).
Walked home and basically did shit all for about 4 or 5 hours till Taekwondo.
First part was general fitness, then we went onto doing patterns. It feels so good to actually know exactely what I am doing now. I can do all the patterns, 4 direction punching and kicking in both directions and chon Ji really easily.
So I can help other people who aren't sure. If possible I'd wanna go straight for my yellow belt in December as this just seems a bit too easy.
Next came the sparring. I was against Basil as we are the same standard. However, against him, something just seemed a bit different. It's as if he didn't really care if he got hit or not and made his kicks more flashy than anything, he was a strange person to spar against.
Even on the way to the Library bar afterwards, Daniel and I were having a conversation about how it's better to spar against higher grades as then you know you can go all out without fear of hurting them and you improve so much quicker. As well as this, me being a beginner, means if I go against the other beginners sparring isn't usually much fun at all. Considering only about 2 of the 12 or so beginners actually have pads, this means that you'd have to shadow box against them, and quite a lot of them are girls and really timid (not saying that all girls are timid, it's just that all the girls in the club that are beginners are). One even said she felt silly sparring :S
I just wanna move up in the belt ranks as quick as possible so I can go up against more people.
The Library pub was quite a laugh tonight.
Rob shotguned a sofa seat and said whoever sits in it will get their legs broken. Two random girls overheard him and one sat there as he came back just to see what he'd do, he didn't break her legs though :(
Then something happened that hasn't happened since I got to Uni. Racist jokes towards me, and a lot of them.
It began when Simon had a sip of my toffee apple cider and said it doesn't taste bad but it feels as though his balls and penis had drunk (cos of how much of a gay drink it is) but said in my case that isn't a problem as I have more than enough to spare.
Yep, a black guy penis joke.
Then came fried chicken jokes, fast running jokes, black people being unable to swim jokes (biologically black people have higher bone density, it's true, I could never mushroom or star float at swimming lessons though can swim alright).
They were quite funny actually, some were aimed at Jeremey too (who is half Chinese) such as asking if he was good at maths, if he is a bad driver and whether he can speak kantanese (he can only speak English).
Though he does hold one stereotype, he is REALLY good at Taekwondo. One girl even said she'd be scared to go up against him cos he is so fast and flexible (yes I know how that sounds).
I've sparred against him many a time and each time got my ass handed to me. He apparently does martial arts 6 times a week, Taekwondo, kick boxing and Ju jitsu and after those sessions usually goes and plays squash :S He's a monster.
After our burgers Rob decided to order pudding (for some reason it made me laugh when he said "I feel like a pudding now". Probably because most people say dessert or afters, but pudding, hehe).
It cost about £6 and was this white chocolate fondou.
That's not the interesting part though.
It was the barmaid who delivered it,
"Who ordered this"?
"Oh, that was me"
"It smells delicious....this is gonna sound a bit cheeky, but can I try some please"?
".......Don't you work here"?
"Yeah but I only get one free meal a day"
*tries some*
Rob generously let us all dig in and it was really really nice. Melted white chocolate with waffles, bananas and strawberries (and he always says that I have gay drinks pfft).
Left after about two hours and was just on facebook for a while. Decided to have dessert too. Steam pudding and custard. Only thing was I got the quantity all wrong, had a whole one to myself and a whole carton of custard :S
I could barely finish it and once I had I think my blood sugar level must have doubled.
It was really nice though, just had too much of it.
As all the girls seem to have gone out and all the boys are in playing football manager I decided to do some work. Finished my maths coursework and decided that I am going to get a head start for next semester by looking and doing some of the things we will be starting there.
I wanna do maths next year too, if I can keep it up, I might get good at it (despite all the bad things I said about it in my other blogs).
If you do Geology and are good at Maths, there should be plenty of jobs.
That was my day basically. Watching episodes of static shock till TKD then evening just ate loads.
Not bad, I'd say.
Really looking forward to squad training tommorow too!

Day 55 - The rat and the ruckus
This morning there WAS a Geophysics lecture, but it was a Q and A session. They always suck as I never have any questions to ask I don't know the subject well enough to ask good questions, and when they are asked, usually the answer is really unclear and leaves you feeling even more confused than before. Maybe because two of the people who explain it are obviously not English and haven't really grasped the language all that well either. No offence to them, they just can't describe things that well because their English isn't that good.
So I laid in, but was still tired when I got up. Only had one thing today, Maths.
I met up with Will and another girl who took Geology (probably should have asked what her name was) and we had a nice little chat on the way up about how we both seem to be doing badly and she said she might change to Environmental Geology as they don't have to do Geophysics. Though seeing as we only got something like 4 weeks of it left she might as well stay with the core side.
Got to the maths lecture and they had found my coursework!
Only got 48%, but better than a 0 really.
The lecture itself wasn't too bad really, actually understood it.
However I went to the help session afterwards in which I didn't actually need any help at all, this coursework was so easy!
The whole time the two students there who were the helpers were talking about the English langauge.
One of them had a book on grammar and found it interesting, so did I actually, while listening to their conversation.
"Did you know what when you write Dr. and put a full stop by it, it shouldn't be there, as the full stop is only there if it's an abbreviation and it doesn't end in the last letter"?
Makes sense when you think about it.
Also for about 5 minutes they were saying why Mrs had an r in it as misses and miss don't. I told them I think it was taken from the word "mistress" to them and they had a "why didn't we think of that" look on their face. Ha, thank YOU Dave Thompson for teaching me English A level. I showed up some students who are older than me.
They were also unsure of one of the questions in the c/w about a graph ruler test and I had to explain it to them which I thought was quite funny seeing as they should have been there to help me, megalolz.
I left after I had managed to finish with the feeling that I might do well in this one. Annoying that the easiest piece of c/w we have had so far we are getting the most time to spend on it as Geography students have their reading week atm so didn't have today's lecture.
I got back to E block and was about to open the door when something caught my eye in the grass. I looked closer but couldn't make it out. Fur....a tail..oh.
It was a rat! a dead one! At least, I think it was. It was huge! At first glance you'd have thought it was a dead rabbit! Also it had loads of bulges coming from it's body which made it even stranger to look at.
I got inside and set my facebook status that I was put off by the rat outside E block.
Literally within the space of 3 minutes, Tim and Heffernan replied to my comments, we all said we should look at it and were outside trying to find a stick to poke it with.
After Heffernan snapped a huge stick from a tree, we began poking and throwing things at it like a bunch of kids. Tim thought it was a water vole and said it was too big for a rat and that it had gone into a stage when you die and all your muscles get stiff because there is no more Acytlcholine going through you.
There is a proper word for this that Adam and Tim knew, I forgot though. Sounded like metamorphosed. Ah well.
I went inside to get my camera, came back a minute later and Luis, Scott and Mike were outside now too, along with Heffernan and Tim.
We were there for 10 minutes poking it, laughing, and pointing it out to everyone who walked past or looked out their window at us to see what we were up to.
Eventually Tim managed to turn it over with a stick and Mike was the only person brave enough to pick it up as he said he is used to Nature from living in Canada.
Of course, he had plastic bags as gloves on.
We didn't know what to do with it though, Laura's window was open and we said we should throw it in there. But that would be VERY harsh. Then we were saying we should put it on the window sill, though Ben realised if she closed it without looking she'd crush the rat and spray juices everywhere.
So in the end, we (Mike) carried it by the tail around Clarence Dock, slapped it against the kitchen window Natalie was in and she ran off in shock. Showed it to some people eating dinner through the window, bet that put them off.
Scott and Heffernan almost threw up too as blood was leaking from it's ass. As if it has shitted so hard it's organs were coming out, it looked horrible.
In the end we put it on Sean's windscreen and decided to leave it for him to find.
After about 30 minutes of childish fun we went back to our own rooms.
Man that was a good evening, got loads of pictures too.
However, this mood was soon to be ruined slightly. I opened my college e-mail and got one from my maths lecturer
"Congradulations! You have been selected to be a compulsary student to attend the maths help classes. These are for students with an average grade of 60% or lower".
Seriously, why put "congradulations" at the front of it !? It's nothing to be happy about. It's as if she was taking the piss that some of us are too stupid to even maintain an acceptable standard of mathematical skill. Made me quite angry tbh.
Was in no mood to do any work. Spent the rest of the evening on msn, facebook and eventually had another Jam session with Adam which had to end early as Mia was in the room next door and being put off her work by us playing. Did cheer up a bit when I had dinner though, was smash, powdered mash. Simply just add water to it, instant mash. So nice too.
Was in Adam's room till about midnightish as he was copying some songs from his itunes to my laptop, free of charge too!
Night came, but was up doing a chemistry tutorial for tommorow. Isn't too bad really, and can catch up on sleep some other time, maybe....

Day 54 - No more burgers ?! No more Adam ?!
Had Geophysics first, not bad really. Beginning to understand it a little better now that we are talking about gravity rather than seismic refraction and reflection rays. I'm hoping that in a few weeks to come (although this course will end by week 11) that when I go over old notes it'll all seem to make sense.
Time is running out!
Had a few hours to kill, got some pasta cheese thing that was horrible to say the least. I dunno why I always pay £2.45 for the pasta when there has only been one I like. Ah well, I'm an idiot.
Next was Dynamic Earth. Man it was boring. About sea floor spreading. I don't know what it is about it. The lecturer, the room, the time of day or the subject. But it is the only lecture I literally have to stab and pinch myself to stay awake in.
So glad we only have it once a week and that I already know all the stuff.
Had another hour free so wasted a bit more time.
Finally had a two hour Geophysics session in which we kinda went through the 2nd assessed practical. Still doesn't make all that much sense but ah well, this is the last assessed one I gotta do.
Got to 4:15pm, had Taekwondo at 6pm so was no point in going home.
Just sat in a computer cluster till the time came, walked the wrong way to the gym and only realised this when I saw someone from the class walking the opposite way. How embarrassing.
Once again, was a really good lesson. Sparring with people better than me really had made me improve a lot to the point when I go up against beginners it almost seems a bit unfair as they do things that I used to always do, like fighting with your arms at your chest rather than protecting your head etc.
It's so good, I wanna keep on fighting and keep getting stronger. Grading is coming up soon too. Apparently it is impossible to fail the white belt (unless you have motor neurone function disease) so am not worried about it at all.
After training I was starving, so off to the Library for cheap burgers and drinks.
Arrive.
"Alright mate ? Can I have a cheese burger and toffee apple cider please".
"Sorry, we have stopped serving food now".
"What, when did you stop"?
"8:30"
*Looks at watch, time says 8:34*
Dammit.
Guess the brightside to this is that I saved about £5 that night, but still, I was hungry the entire time till I got home and made myself dinner. Spaghetti on toast, was feeling lazy.
Decided to actually socialise tonight and went upstairs into other flat. All the girls were going to Oceana but boys were staying in.
Whilst there, I got told some pretty, well very upsetting news.
Adam was leaving :(
Apparently his doctor phoned him up saying that he needs to come home as his being at Uni is probably making his illness worse and he definitely won't be able to go to Hong Kong next year in his condition (seeing as the Chinese aren't all that sympathetic to mental illness, he would be thrown into an insane asylum if he began having a hallucination out there).
I haven't spoken to him yet, but he is meant to be leaving on the 29th and coming back next year, though he said he needed it as he was always just too exhausted and was finding it hard to cope.
Now this is really annoying.
Not only have I lost one of the best friends I have made here (We've had card nights, jazz jam nights, his parents were really nice, cooked us dinner, family guy nights. Had loads of nights), but this means ANOTHER damn new person moving in.
At first I was excited with our first new person, Charlotte, but seeing as I have literally only seen her about 6 times since the 3 or 4 weeks she has been here, getting another new person who would have already made loads of friends anyway so won't be part of the "E block family" doesn't excite me at all.
It's just very very annoying.
*Sigh*
Oh well, maybe he plays sax too.
After the girls played spin the bottle/truth of dare (of which they always said truth, and it was always a sexual question such as how many people that had slept with or favorite position) they left for Oceana, it then became guys night.
It was so good, they got a tv in their kitchen now, and had E4. Watched inbetweeners and balls of steel and saw adverts for the new series of Big Bang theory. Almost passed out. Forgot how much I loved E4. Was quite funny too as Mike had never even heard of let alone seen all the shows we were watching and found it shocking the way in which balls being dipped in tea (pain men) was just shown on TV as that would never happen in Canada, or America.
Finally, it got late (early) in the morning so we decided to call it a night. Just stayed on facebook for a bit, saw a facebook challenge from Adam challenging me to beat his high score in tetris, which I did whilst talking to Lauren on msn. God knows why he challenged me when his score was only 1000, I got 2,500 without even trying :S
Anyway, think I'll go to bed now too. Might even try and get some work done tommorow (might)....

Day 53 - It's 'cos I'm a thief!
Tuesday, long long day. Computing got moved to the Houldsworth cluster. That's right, I had no clue where it was either. Took me at least 40 minutes to find. My fault for trying to find it on my own when I could have just asked at reception and saved myself a whole lot of time.
Eitherway, got there, handed my work in and spent the next 2 hours working on CorelDRAW, which is kinda like photoshop and paint in one, for Geologists.
As Darryl, Tom and I got out of the lift, as this was in the engineering building (out of the wat of anything else) I thought it'd be funny to press all the buttons in the lift so when the next person went in it'd go to every floor.
Felt bad when it was actually quite a nice looking (by nice I mean as in not mean, but she wasn't ugly either) girl walked in after us :|
We ran.
Next up, geological maps.
Don't even need to talk about this, pretty obvious it didn't go well.
Had a few hours free in which I met up with Tom Richards and one of his sort of flat mates. Had a bit of a laugh for an hour but they both left for lectures and I left for the computer cluster to waste time. However during the hour I was with them both was quite funn seeing as neither of them (Tom or the girl) had explored the Union and didn't even know we had a canteen. So I had to guide them around. Also Tom lost his wallet. We walked around for about 10 minutes looking for it, turns out he left it on the counter when he was paying for something :S
He said he always takes out his wallet then gets the change straight from his pocket, oh dear oh dear.
Last was Minerals. Actually went really well tbh. For some reason I had the motivation to work really hard, which usually isn't the case in that class.
Maybe my mai problem here, is motivation.
Left and booked an appointment at the doctor and on the way back decided to get some stuff from Morrisons.
I really wanted to buy Smash, that mash that is a powder, you add water, and it makes mash. Not sure if they had any though.
Bought all my things and walked outside where I put some of the stuff in my backpack to reduce shoulder injury. This is when things got weird. The following conversation is NOT made up btw. As I got up, and old man was standing right infront of me, I thought I was in his way, so moved...
"Stand there"
".....Sorry"?
"Stand there"
"Why"?
*Silence*
"I can't get in"
"But the dor is right there"
"Yeah, but I can't get in"
"What do you mean you can't get in"?
"They won't serve me"
"Why not"
"...because I'm a theif"!
(This was an old man of about 60 years old with a walking stick btw)
"Can you go in and buy some things for me please"
"No, because then I will get into trouble"
"Ok ok, sorry, didn't mean to scare you".
One thing about living in a big City like Leeds means there is a lot of room for complete weirdos.
I keep going back on myself tonight, BEFORE Morrisons. I went to get my phone back, got a facebook message from Terri saying my phone was at the house still and that I could go and get it myself (she didn't mean it to sound rude, I hope).
So I left for Queens road.
Not sure how I got back that night, it took me 30 minutes to find this time.
Had to ask loads of people on the street.
What was worse was that once I FINALLY found the place, I was knocking on the door for abotu 10 minutes before someone answered. There was someone on the phone in the house that was actually looking at me the whole time but still didn't let me in =/
And it can't have been because he was too busy being on the phone, when I finally was let in I saw that there were about 4 other people in the house anyway, so WTF guys !!!! It was freezing out there !
Well, that was the highlight of my day/evening.
Spent the rest of it eating and attempting a chemistry tutorial which I know I done wrong anyway.
Meh.
END.

Day 52 - Family Guys
I was a little worried this morning that I'd be late for my lecture not having my phone to use as an alarm. I tried to set my clock radio but for some reason it wasn't working, though tbh considering it only cost £4.99 I'm suprised it's lasted me this long.
Nevertheless, I managed to get up, have a shower and get to Uni about 30 minutes early, though can't remember what I did in those 30 minutes.
First lecture was alright, going through Bowen's reaction series and stuff done at A level, understood everything I was told which is actually quite rare.
Went to a cluster with Tom and Darryl and did an assignment together, whilst Tom showed us his presentation on Iceburgs and climate change, which I have to say looked really good compared to mine which had pictures of Pokémon, the squirrel from Ice age and Hiruma Youichi in it.
Chemistry lecture was normal.
Didn't understand geological maps lecture so decided I would work on that when I got home, but first decided to re-new a library book (man this blog is boring isn't it).
Although we have been here 7 weeks, Heffernan didn't even know where our Geology library was, let alone having got at least one book out from there, would explain as to why he is falling behind with just about everything though.
Got home but realised how tired I was so slept till about 9:15pm. After which I decided to do some work on maps.
Tbh, it wasn't that hard, just a trial and error thing in which I had to remember afew key points and rules. Trouble is, ever since Uni, I have been unable to really grasp or remember any concepts, and I'm not sure why. It's not that they're really hard either, so it is a bit worrying.
Didn't leave my room apart from when I needed food (which is pretty much every night tbh), though at one point I did run into Adam, who was walking out the front door,
"Where are you going at this time"?
"Oh, just felt like a walk"
"......It's 1 in the morning"
"Yeah I know"
"Well.....keep to the main roads".
The strangest thing was the way in which Adam saw nothing at all strange about going for a walk at about 1 in the morning, espeically considering it was freezing cold outside AND raining quite heavily :S
He returned about 30 minutes later, again we met in the kitchen, yes I was very hungry this evening. He asked if I wanted a game of cards, though I declined as I knew he'd beat me no matter what game it was and instead asked if he wanted to watch Family Guy as Scott had lent me his season six DVD (For some reason Scott has season 6 but has never seen season 3, so I have lent him my disc, is like a Pokémon trade).
So, Adam and I stayed up till about 3:30am watching family guy despite the fact both of us needed to be up for 9am the next day. Lucky I got in those few hours of sleep before hand really.
Got through the whole of the first disc, two more to go!
